San Pedro is the capital city of the canton of Poás in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. It is also the name of the distrito (district) that includes the city. The district of San Pedro covers an area of 14.64 km² [1], and has a population of 7,497 [2].
The city lies at an elevation of 1,148 meters above sea level[1] in the mountains of the Cordillera Central (Central Mountain Range) in Costa Rica. It is 13 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital city of Alajuela and 32 kilometers from the national capital city of San Jose.
